On January 18, the U.S. Department of Justice announced they will have $101.4 million available through their FY 2012 Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation (CTAS). According to the DOJ’s press release, “the funding can be used to conduct comprehensive planning, enhance law enforcement, bolster justice systems, support and enhance tribal efforts to prevent and control delinquency and strengthen the juvenile justice system, prevent youth substance abuse, serve victims of crime and support efforts to combat crimes.

This provides a great opportunity to get funding for software—especially if you work in a tribal court, prosecutor’s, or defender’s office. Create  more efficient processes for your day-to-day tasks, generate and store documents electronically, and easily track statistics and reports better with case management software.
Electronic applications for CTAS will be accepted beginning Monday, Jan. 23. Don’t wait to get started on your application because the solicitation will only remain open for 90 days and will close at 9 p.m. EST Wednesday, April 18, 2012.

“the funding can be used to conduct comprehensive planning, enhance law enforcement, bolster justice systems, support and enhance tribal efforts to prevent and control delinquency and strengthen the juvenile justice system, prevent youth substance abuse, serve victims of crime and support efforts to combat crimes.”

Since CTAS was launched in 2010, the DOJ has awarded over $245 million to hundreds of American Indian and Alaskan Native communities. This year’s solicitation is designed to be more user-friendly by incorporating a question and answer template, using demographics to better illustrate the unique characteristics of each tribe and using adjusted “Purpose Areas” to allow for greater flexibility in funding requests.
