Mohave County Public Defender

Mohave County Public Defender, Legal Defender, and County Attorney’s offices each selected JustWare to change the way they serve the public. It has exceeded their expectations for nine years and counting.  This is a small, yet influential, portion of Mohave County’s story.

AGENCY IMPACT

The Mohave County Public Defender, Legal Defender, and County Attorney’s Offices used to conduct daily operations with an internally developed, access-developed application called CMPLUS. Over time, the combination of large user volume and lack of customer support led them to search for an alternative case management solution, which came to a triumphant close with the selection of JustWare.

JustWare has given us the ability to manage our workloads at a level never before possible in our office. It provides us a speedy method of performing conflict-checking on cases assigned to our office. It allows our attorneys to manage their cases extremely well, to include calendaring and document assembly. The document assembly function of JustWare has saved us an enormous amount of money. The ability to actually increase work volume through the efficiencies of JustWare versus the expense of adding FTE’s has been awesome.

JustWare’s integration capabilities allow Mohave County attorneys to receive information directly from county law enforcement, eliminating much of the data entry typically required for new cases.

According to Hlavac, features such as these make it possible for Mohave County attorneys “to manage their cases extremely well.” In fact, he says, “We have progressed from a system which took days or weeks to assign cases from an initial appearance, to one in which counsel is often assigned within a few hours.”

COMMUNITY IMPACT

How has JustWare affected the community of Mohave County?

“JustWare has been a phenomenal tool for all of Mohave County,” said Hlavac. “Amazingly, we are bound much more by our imaginations than we are by the technical abilities of JustWare.”

To be more specific, the Deputy County Manager explained how a number of automated processes, “such as document preparation and business rule triggers and results” have given the county the opportunity to direct more focus on professional work that will benefit the lives of its citizens, without accruing additional personnel.

“This has been a boon for the taxpayers who now receive a higher quality of constitutionally mandated services at the same, or reduced, costs,” said Hlavac. “JustWare is the absolute best available resource we could have possibly chosen.”
