Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas was New Dawn Technologies’ first hosted customer. JustWare | Court replaced a paper-only system and helped improve the tribe’s calendaring, docketing, reporting, and financial tracking, as well as decrease paper dependency.
Agency Impact
Kickapoo’s Tribal Court implemented JustWare | Court to replace a dated paper-only system. Kickapoo elected to install JustWare as a hosted solution that can be accessed from a secure Internet connection. The hosted solution method places the burden of supporting JustWare directly on New Dawn and their secure data center, and saves the court from having to purchase expensive hardware to upgrade from their paper-only situation.
Every time I call, someone is available to help. If there is anything we are having problems with, we know we are just a phone call away.
Cecy Maldanoado, Court Administrator, Kickapoo Tribal Court
“I had to do everything manually,” recalled Cecy Maldonado, Court Administrator for the Kickapoo Tribal Court. “[Under the paper system] there were so many cases that we would forget to put them on the docket.” JustWare’s powerful calendaring and docketing created a solid court docket for the tribal court that did not allow court patrons to fall through the cracks.
“JustWare saves us a lot of time,” said Maldonado. She explained that the tribal court has monthly administrative reports that they are required to submit. JustWare’s reporting capabilities help create reports with varying time and date ranges for active cases, money collected, etc., saving them the time of creating the reports manually.
“Every time I call, someone is available to help,” said Maldonado of New Dawn’s support staff. Because Kickapoo is hosted by New Dawn, the tribal court does not have an on-site support staff to work through issues. New Dawn’s support team handles occasional issues as they arise. “If there is anything we are having problems with, we know we are just a phone call away.”
Community Impact
Since the implementation of JustWare, Kickapoo noticed a difference in their court processes. “Before, we would give each person coming through court a copy of each individual order,” said Maldonado. “Now, we put each order into one case in JustWare and give them the case summary report. The report will state the activity on the case instead of us printing out document after document.”
The electronic documents in JustWare, such as the case summary report, create a better experience for court patrons and reduce Kickapoo’s dependency on paper. Prior to implementing JustWare, court personnel would make paper copies of each mailed document. Now, JustWare stores an electronic copy of each document in the case’s filing cabinet, eliminating the need for Kickapoo to make and store paper copies.
